How I Got Rid of Those Dreaded Hot Flashes!

My Story

At the ripe young age of 44 I started to experience the dreaded hot flash that I had been hearing about from my clients. Profuse sweating that come out of nowhere at any time day or night. When I say anytime, I mean at the most inopportune time. The flashes will come on you suddenly while in a meeting, at the hair salon sitting in your stylist chair. In the car where no matter how low you turn the air or high you turn up the fan you cannot get any relief from the internal inferno. You literally want to get out the car and strip in the street. How about the embarrassment of being at work with a colleague or talking to your boss. Suddenly you get that feeling and you brace yourself because a flash is coming. You try to remain calm and suddenly, WHAM it hits you like a fire truck. Sweat starts to roll off your forehead, you feel flush and your neck starts to turn bright, beet red. You toss and turn all night because you have the flash and night sweats multiple times through out the night. I have a fan ceiling fan over my bed and I would wake up at 10 pm, 1 am and 3 am and hit the button on the ceiling fan to get some type of reprieve. I finally got frustrated and needed to find a remedy. Just like I had done in the past when I suffered from fibroids and heavy periods, I looked at my diet. What was different in my diet that could cause this. I’m way to young to have hot flashes, pre-menopause, menopause or whatever. I refuse to accept this as normal at my age or anytime for that matter. I’m a go- against the grain kind of girl and do not accept the status quo. I looked at articles on remedies, spoke to my doctor friends and asked my holistic health colleagues. Every answer was much of the same. Either it is what it is and just accept it. You can try hormone replacement therapy or “natural” remedies that come in the form of pills. No thank you! So I decided to go in the 4Day Detox to rid myself of hot flashes. I stuck to the plan for 4 days and at the end of the cleanse I had 8 pounds, had through the roof energy and whoooo, no more hot flashes! With that, I was so excited and wanted to share this plan with my peeps who are sick and tired of being stuck, feeling crabby, gaining weight and having those terrible flashes of heat that can ruin a good hair do!

Profuse sweating, drenched clothes, nausea, and a numbing headache quickly followed by chills – it’s not the tagline for a horror movie, but a common reality for many women over 40 suffering from the discomfort of hot flashes. Usually, right after a hot flash, the skin is left reddened and clammy. To help prevent these uncomfortable episodes, many healthcare professionals recommend making a few simple dietary changes.

What causes hot flashes?

It’s not exactly clear what causes hot flashes. However, they’re most likely due to hormonal changes in the body. Some women barely notice hot flashes or consider them a minor annoyance. For others, the intensity may affect their quality of life in a rather negative way.

Hot flash triggers

Each woman’s triggers for hot flashes may be a little different, but some common ones include:

  • Drinking alcohol
  • Consuming products with caffeine
  • Eating spicy foods
  • Being in a hot room
  • Feeling stressed or anxious
  • Wearing tight clothing
  • Smoking or being exposed to cigarette smoke
  • BPA plastic

You may want to start keeping a journal about your symptoms. Write down what you were doing, eating, drinking, feeling, or wearing when each hot flash began. After several weeks, you may begin to see a pattern that can help you avoid specific triggers.

So, eliminate the following foods from your diet, and add more fruits and vegetables to naturally decrease estrogen in your body. If you want to start detoxing your body of estrogen, consume more cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, kale, collard greens, and Brussels sprouts.

Drinking a glass of cider vinegar tonic in the morning to help regulate toxins that the body is trying to eliminate through perspiration.
